Gérard Cachon
Fred R. Sullivan Professor of Operations and Information Management,  Department Chair


Professor Cachon’s research is centered on supply chain management and operations strategy. In particular, he explores the application of novel incentive schemes to enhance supply chain coordination, the use of information technology to improve supply chain inventory management and the role of operations in competitive strategy and dynamics. His articles have appeared in Harvard Business Review, Management Science, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management and Operations Research, among others. He is the Editor of Manufacturing & Service Operations Management and a past President of the Manufacturing and Service Operations Management Society of INFORMS.

He has consulted with a wide range of companies on supply chain management. They include 4R Systems, Ahold, Americold, Campbell Soup, IBM, Medtronic and O’Neill Inc.

In addition to doctoral level courses, he teaches the Supply Chain Core MBA course and an MBA elective on Marketing and Operations Integration. He is the author (along with Christian Terwiesch) of Matching Supply with Demand: An Introduction to Operations Management. He is the recipient of several teaching awards.

Before joining the Wharton School in July 2000, Professor Cachon was on the faculty at the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University. He received a Ph.D. from The Wharton School in 1995.
